In 2006, Yogeesh Ashram started a children's primary and secondary school in Haldari (a small village) in Hariana, India. This village is approximately 3 ½ hours away from Delhi. The likelihood of having a school in these types of villages are rare. However, Acharya Shree Yogeesh wanted to start a school for educational purposes. In the future he will eventually include classes on meditation and self-improvement, in addition to a college. It is with this school project he hopes to inspire the children to pursue education so that they can affect society positively.
“Only education can change the society. Education is a must. They need to need to read, write, and understand.”
When the school initially began, only 150 students attended. The enrollment has increased to 250 students within past few years. The school has one director and six teachers.
Classes are currently held outside – no matter what the weather conditions are. Recently, more land was acquired and in the near future the cement/stone foundation will be installed for the 3 story school building, which will include 30 classrooms.
“This project is very big, however, education is a must for these children. In these villages, educational opportunities are rare. People can improve themselves by education. They can become truth-seekers and serve the society. If you can change one person, you can affect many others.”
For future projects, once the main school building has been established, one of the rooms in the school building will become a free eye clinic. Many Indians have lost their vision due to the lack of funds to get an operation. With the help of volunteer eye doctors, it is a goal to help bring vision back to others.
